Partnerships in the Preparation of 21st Century Learning P-12 + Higher Education Conversations about Implementation of Common Core:

On Thursday, 23 January 2014, selected members of the Cumberland County Schools, under the Curriculum and Instructional Leadership of Dr. Violette shared insights on the implementation of Common Core with invited faculty and administrators from Fayetteville State University.

The session enabled the development of understanding the challenges and opportunities implicit with the implementation of Common Core by North Carolina schools and the efforts of Cumberland County Schools.

Content Specialist with backgrounds in English-Language Arts, Science, Math and head of the Arts Education were present and/or presented insights.

The audience from Fayetteville State University included faculty members from the College of Arts & Sciences and the School of Eduction, who hosted the event.

What were the primary needs of the Higher Education Faculty present?

How should the conversation lead to momentous implementation for the good of students who leave public schools and attend Fayetteville State University?

What were the primary notes from each core content discipline related to course objectives required in common core and University content courses taught by faculty?

What foundations of knowledge should faculty in higher education expect from the high school graduate?

What common knowledge sets might the faculty in higher education anticipate that the college educated student should gain by the beginning of the junior year of college?

What objectives on current syllabi at the university level or may be aligned with anticipated knowledge of students leaving high schools with a common core of knowledge in math and English/Language Arts ?
